A masculine name in Arabic can be usually
transformed in to a feminine form just by
adding the feminine termination, the ta Marbutah,
parents can take advantage of this flexibility
and bestow the same name to boys and girls
by just adding the feminine termination to
certain masculine names.
Names, which do not contain the feminine
termination but are feminine in origin are
considered feminine in Arabic for example,
Balqis, Layla, Marya, Kulthum and zaynab are
strictly feminine names
Names which do contain the feminine termination
but are masculine their origin, are considered
masculine, even though they sound and appear
like feminine names. Famous examples of this
type include “tarafah, Nabighaha, Talhah
and Khawaja are masculine name.
